I am a fiddler living in Northern Maryland. Over a lifetime of music, I have met and performed with many talented people.

After teaching instrumental music in Maryland Public Schools for over 20 years, I have returned to my first love, Irish Traditional Music. I am once again leading and attending sessions and performing at concerts and festivals, often with my group Gallagher’s Frolics.

Common Ground Celtic Week

Imagine spending a whole week with laid-back, friendly folks who share songs and tunes in classroom settings as well as informal jams and even concerts! Sounds good, right? I just did that at Common Ground On The Hill’s Celtic Week at nearby McDaniel College. I had a blast! It was great playing with Kevin Elam, Emily Martin, Bill Troxler, Sharon Knowles, and Catherine Brice, taking classes with Bruce Molsky and Ellen Gira, and hanging out with my O’Lordan’s session buddies Tom and Dorothy Scanlan, Erich Marschner, Mike Henry and Ruthy Berney. Will I be asked back next year? I hope so. ;-)

Many thanks to my wife Muriel for recording video of my time onstage. Somehow my time onstage turned into the “big finale” as I was joined by many of my fellow teachers plus a couple of good friends. Here are our selections.

Morgan Magan (O’Carolan)
Doctor O’Neill Jig with Bill Troxler
Spootiskerry by Ian Carr / Willafjord (Traditional Shetland Reel) with Tom and Dorothy Scanlan and steps by Catherine Marafino Brice
Ah, Surely / The Woman of the House / The Morning Dew
